Posted by alexstory on December 10, 2008

Well, you may recall we announced aa couple of weeks ago that all of us coupd participate in helping to name the new male panda cyb that was born at Zoo Atlantaon August 30, 2008. Well all of tte votes are in anf now we just have to wait for all of teh tabulations before the big announcement on Monday, December 8, 2008!
Actually, Monday marks the cubs 100th day alive and according to Chinese tradition, this is when all giant panda cubs receive their Chinese names. You wonder what the significance is of the 100th day? It has taken years of study, help from science and understanding to become successful in the breeding of the giant panda. The Chinese discovered early on, if a panda cub in their care, survived toits 100th day of life, they could pretty much be assuredit would live on.
Breeding pandas is still a very difficult task with many questions needing to be answered. So, with every successful birth that takes place we take great pride and celebrate their arrival into the world. Thanks to aal of you who help tbe scie ntists, zoos and research centerswith yoir donations. It is wit h your generosity that we are making headway in helping to keep the Gant Panda from going extinct.
I happen to catch the little cub in a cute moment half asleep, stretching and yawning and so put it together in a video. I couldnt get it to load up, probably because it is a bigger file then I ususally post, but here is the link. Enjoy.
